Through high-quality core instruction, evidence-based interventions, regular assessment, and ongoing progress monitoring, the district provides a comprehensive system of academic supports designed to help all students achieve grade-level proficiency.
Core Reading & Mathematics Instruction
All students receive daily instruction aligned to Ohio’s Learning Standards using high-quality, evidence-based curriculum. Reading instruction develops foundational reading skills, language comprehension, vocabulary, writing, and literacy. Mathematics instruction develops conceptual understanding, procedural skills, mathematical reasoning, problem solving, and application of mathematics across grade levels.
Assessment & Progress Monitoring
The district regularly assesses students’ reading and mathematics skills to determine whether they are meeting grade-level expectations and to identify students who may need additional support. Multiple sources of data, including universal screening and diagnostic assessments, classroom assessments, and Ohio State Tests, are used to monitor progress, guide instruction, identify strengths and needs, and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions.
Reading & Mathematics Intervention and Supports
Students who need additional support receive targeted, evidence-based interventions designed to address identified skill gaps in reading and/or mathematics. Intervention services are planned using assessment data and regularly monitored to ensure students are making progress toward grade-level proficiency. Support may include small-group instruction, supplemental intervention programs, or individualized supports based on student needs.
Ohio’s Third Grade Reading Guarantee
Ohio’s Third Grade Reading Guarantee is designed to ensure students develop essential reading skills by the end of third grade. Students identified as needing additional support receive evidence-based reading interventions and ongoing progress monitoring to accelerate reading growth. Families are regularly informed of their child’s progress and the supports being provided.
Reading Improvement and Monitoring Plans (RIMPs)
Students identified under Ohio’s reading requirements receive a Reading Improvement and Monitoring Plan (RIMP). Beginning with the 2026-2027 school year, Ohio law extends RIMPs through seventh grade. Students continue to receive a RIMP until they demonstrate grade-level reading proficiency as defined by Ohio requirements. Each RIMP outlines the student’s identified reading needs, intervention services, instructional strategies, progress monitoring plan, and opportunities for family involvement.
Academic Intervention Plans
Students who do not demonstrate grade-level proficiency on applicable state mathematics or English Language Arts assessments may receive additional academic intervention as required by Ohio law. Intervention is designed to address identified areas of need and support students in progressing toward grade-level proficiency. Families are notified when their child requires academic intervention and receive information about the supports being provided.
